The wireless handset industry was rocked a couple weeks ago when respected cryptologists from the Technion in Israel announced a significantly faster attack on GSM ciphers than had previously been known. The paper describing the attack was publicly presented at Crypto 2003, a symposium for crypto researchers held yearly in Santa Barbara, California. However, it was difficult to find the paper online.
